Alumnus Violinist You Dayoon Wins the Second in the Long-Thibaud
International Concours
You Dayoon, a 22-year-old violinist with educational roots at the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts (KNIGA) as well as K-Arts School of Music, clinched second place at the prestigious Long-Thibaud International Concours. In the final stage held on 26 November, You Dayoon mesmerized the audience and jury with a playing of the Violin Concerto in D minor of Jean Sibelius.
Having commenced his violin journey at the
age of 6, You Dayoon made his debut at the Seoul Arts Centre, showcasing Haydn’s
Violin Concerto No. 2. At the age of 15, he gained admission to KNIGA, an institution
for arts prodigy affiliated with K-Arts, where he started his study under the guidance
of professor Kim Nam Yoon. He also got a special admission to K-Arts and
studied with professor Koo Bonjiu.
The Long-Thibaud International Concours began in 1943, bearing the name of two renowned French musicians – pianist Marguerite Long and violinist Jacques Thibaud. This competition aims to discover and promote the talents of young violinists and pianists aged 16 to 33. The laureates receive exceptional prizes, including financial support, recording opportunities, concert proposals, instrument loans and the backing of patrons and sponsors.
In 2008, Shin Zia, also an alumnus of the
School of Music, achieved the first place in this exteemed competition.
