Haru, a Musical
Group, Joins the Korean-Philippine Exchange Concert for the Next Generation
Artists
Haru, a musical
group from the K-Arts, as a representative from Korea participated in an
exchange concert for the next-generation artists of Korea and the Philippines at
the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines. The event was held on 3
October to commemorate the National Foundation Day of South Korea. TUGMA, a
traditional performing group, under the University of the Philippines, joined
the event as a Philippine representative.
Haru is a pansori group
composed in 2018 with performers of vocalist, ajaeng, and gayageum. For the
event, the group had prepared and staged its creative pansori piece, “Emperor’s
New Clothes.” Their authentic stage based on the re-interpretation of a
world-famous fable into a pansori drew applause from the audience. Haru and
TUGMA impressed the audience towards the end of the concert, co-performing “Salidummay,”
a folk song from Ifugao, the Philippines, and “Arirang,” a traditional Korean
folk song.
The event took
place at the exhibition hall of the National Museum of the Philippines, which
used to be a senate chamber. The venue is currently used as an exhibition room holding
large paintings about the history of Manila. The National Museum of the
Philippines is also a historical place where President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of
the Philippines held his inauguration ceremony on 30 June 2022.
