Lee Yoonseo Holds a Solo Exhibition, “Painting Painted Painting”

Lee Yoonseo, School of Visual Arts, Holds a Solo Exhibition, “Painting Painted Painting”

From 11 to 31 October at the Gallery Chosun, visual artist Lee Yoonseo, who earned a BA and an MA of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts, presented a solo exhibition, “Painting Painted Painting.” In her work, Lee translates the vast amount of information and the constant flow and circulation of images through painting and talks about the “original source” distorted in today’s information landscape.

The series of “Painting Painted Painting” first translates the information of texts or images into impressions or gestures and then employs them as the topics for Lee’s paintings. Lee’s works swiftly record the traces of images taken by smartphones onto canvas. The afterimages of the recorded images are painted on and on at speed until completion. In that way, “Painting Painted Painting” depicts today’s landscape which has lost depth while ceaselessly flowing fast from here to there.

Lee Yoonseo’s paintings evoke the audience to reflect on personal attitudes and sensibilities that vary along with today’s information environment. Through the images smudged by rapid brushstrokes, they portray the circumstance in which the painting as an artistic technique fails to catch up with deluging information and its speed in the contemporary world.
