Kwon Jia Wins the 1st at the Onnara Traditional Dance Competition

 

Kwon Ji-a, School of Korean Traditional Arts, Wins the Onnara Dance Competition

 

Kwon Ji-a, who currently studies traditional dance at the School of Korean Traditional Arts, took the President’s Prize, equivalent to the best prize, at the Onnara Dance Competition by the National Gugak Center. At the competition on 5 September, Kwon performed salpuri, a Korean folk dance, and received the highest score among the participants. Kwon Ji-a was awarded the President’s Prize and a prize money of 5 million KRW.

 

Kwon said, “I am grateful to my teacher and family who led me to an opportunity to dance. I will continue to train myself, learning not only traditional dance skills but the spirit inherent in them.”

 

Celebrating the 17th anniversary, the Onnara Dance Competition is an event hosted by the National Gugak Center to discover the talents in the traditional dance. The previous winners are active as experts in various fields of traditional dance.
