The Moon (2023), a sci-fi blockbuster by filmmaker Kim Yong-hwa, a professor of the School of Film, TV & Multimedia, is garnering acclamation in Indonesia upon release. Earlier in his career, director Kim attracted more than 10 million viewers with his film series, Along with Gods. The Moon (2023) follows the story of the struggle of an astronaut Sun-woo (actor Do Kyung-soo) who is isolated on the Moon by accident and the former managing director of the space center, Jae-guk (actor Sol Kyung-gu), who strives to save him. By 22 August, the accumulative number of audience in Indonesia was over 310 thousand. This is the box office record next best to the one of Parasite (2019) for a Korean film in Indonesia.

 

Before its official release, The Moon (2023) was pre-sold in over 155 countries, including North American countries, the Philippines, Australia, Germany, Spain, etc. It was released in many regions, such as North America, Singapore, the Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, etc. The Moon (2023) is drawing great attention, especially in Indonesia, where the audience of millennial and Z generations have a preference for Korean films.

 

The film was also released in Vietnam on the 10th and by the 23rd, it broke the 73-million-dollar cumulative box office record. By now, it made the box office hit of the Korean films of the year. In the meantime, the film is awaiting to be released in Thailand.
