On 13 July, the K-Arts, South Korea, and Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), United States, signed a MOU for extending current student exchange program to cooperate on cutting-edge art and technology projects.
As per the MOU, both schools agreed to work together in areas of
research on new media projects based on cutting-edge technology and academic
and student exchange. Prof. Cho Chung-yean of the Department of Multimedia (School
of Film, TV & Multimedia), a chief executive of the K-Arts AT Lab, and Prof. Ryu Semi of VCU are going to guide a collaborative integrated project using
advanced technology, starting from 2nd semester of 2023. Prof. Ryu Semi is an alumna of the School of Film, TV & Multimedia, and she currently teaches
Kinetic Imaging in VCU.
For the first project, the two
institutions will engage in an integrated project for developing immersive
reality content, such as by co-conducting research on interactive storytelling
that combines art and technology in the form of XR performance or exploring a
new media language for performance directing in the metaverse environment. The collaborative
class between the K-Arts AT Lab and VCU will take place online through distance
education. The groups varying on the research topics will run independent and
innovative experiments. The two schools are anticipated to further extend the
range of their partnership to design departments.
