Cellist Han Jaemin of the School of Music won the Samsung Music Fellowship sponsored by the Samsung Foundation of Culture. The Samsung Music Fellowship is a program renting out musical instruments for prospective musicians with excellent artistic competence yet do not have adequate musical instruments of their own to perform. Running since 1997, the program rents the world-famous exquisite string instruments to the performers free of charge to encourage them to grow as world-class artists.
Han Jaemin was the youngest-ever winner of the 2021 George
Enescu International Competition for the first time in the 63 years of the
competition’s history. Han won the David Popper International Cello Competition
in 2017 and Isang Yun Competition in 2022. He was admitted to the School of
Music as a music prodigy after completing the program at the Korea National
Institute for the Gifted in Arts, where he studied with Professor Chung
Myung-hwa and Professor Lee Kangho.
