Violinist Choi Songha of the KNIGA, Placed 2nd in the 2023 Montreal International Music Competition
Violinist Choi Songha placed 2nd
in the 2023 Montreal International Music Competition (MIMC) which ended on 4
May. Choi is currently pursuing her musical career in Europe after completing
the curriculum at the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts (KNIGA).
The MIMC was founded in 2001 to expand
the artistic influence of young artists. Starting in 2002, the competition has been
held annually, taking turns in voice, violin, and piano sections. This year, 24
competitors survived through the preliminary round, 6 of whom made it up to the
final.
Choi Songha, the 2nd place
winner, now studies with professor Kolja Blacher at the Academy of Music Hanns Eisler
Berlin in Germany. She had studied in the KNIGA affiliated with the K-Arts and the
Yehudi Menuhin School in the UK. Choi is the winner of 2nd prizes in
the 2016 Yehudi Menuhin Violin Competition, the Premio Lipizer International Violin
Competition, and the Windsor Festival International String Competition.
