K-Arts Celebrates the Disabled Day 2023 with Art Festival, “Touch”

On 18 April, celebrating the 43rd Disabled Day, the K-Arts hosted a special art festival, “Touch,” at the Gallery on the Seokgwan-dong campus. Congressperson and pianist Kim Yeji (People Power Party) made the event more meaningful with her presence.

The opening of the festival started with a video which had documented the campus life of the disabled students newly admitted to K-Arts in 2023. Then President Kim Daejin of K-Arts and Park Song-yi, a visually impaired student majoring in piano in the School of Music, presented Mozart’s Piano Sonata D Major, K318. The performances by students with and without disabilities of the School of Music and of the School of Korean Traditional Arts together with professors followed afterward. At the Gallery, the disabled students of the School of Visual Arts put their works on display. When the festival ended, the parents and those who were concerned came together to exchange opinions on how to improve the conditions for arts education for the disabled.

Besides, the Student Support Center of K-Arts assists students with various means of academic and campus life support and provides scholarships. It also runs a campaign to improve awareness of disability. A “barrier-free map” or a mentorship program for the newly entered disabled students offered by the center also aims to help students better adapt to school life.
