President
Kim Daejin of K-Arts Is Awarded the 64th Samil Prize
President Kim Daejin of K-Arts was
granted the Samil Prize by the Samil Foundation. Succeeding the spirit of the
Samil (March 1st) Independence Movement, the Samil Prize aims to build
and improve the foundation for the cultural industry. Professor Cho Seungwoo (Yonsei
University, Department of Biotechnology) and Professor Son Jaebok (Korea
University, School of Mechanical Engineering) are the co-recipients.
With the win, Kim Daejin, Korea's representative
pianist and conductor, earned recognition as an arts educator who contributes
to fostering young future artists. The awards ceremony takes place at the
Westin Chosun Hotel on 1 March at 10 a.m. The winners granted the
medals along with the prize money of one hundred million KRW.
President Kim contributed all his grants to the K-Arts Development Fund, saying "Allow me to nodate this grant to my beloved K-Arts, which makes me stand here. Hopefully the fund to be used to develop an innovative art education system and to nurture young, creative, and unique artists for the new leap forward of the K-Arts."
The Samil Prize came out in 1959 and gave
the first award in 1960. The foundation was established in 1966.
