Marimba Performer Park Seokjung Becomes the First Korean to Join the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra

Percussion performer Park Seojung, an alumna of the Department of Instrumental Music at the K-Arts School of Music and who currently studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich for the Artist Diploma, was selected as a member of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. Park is the first Korean member in the 130 years of the orchestra’s history.

Park Seokjung took 1st place in the music concours by the Seoul National University while studying at Incheon Arts High School. Also taking first in other contests, such as the Journal of Music and the Music Education News, she came to prominence as the percussion performer of the next generation. After completing her education at the School of Music, she performed as a guest member in the Munich Symphony, Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra, Wonju Philharmonic Orchestra, Korea Chamber Orchestra, and Seocho Philharmonic Orchestra.

For the plan, Park said, “I will focus on performing as an orchestra member for now. Still, I will continue challenging myself through competitions or ensemble performances as a soloist at the same time.”
