Department
of Architecture, the Only Institution in Korea, to Regain the RIBA Validated
Qualification
The academic program in the Department
of Architecture at the School of Visual Arts is accredited by the RIBA
Validated Course by the Royal Institute of British Architects.
Since 2006, the Department of
Architecture has received and renewed the validation by the RIBA. The
department completed the third validation process with success in December 2022.
The evaluation categories include curricula, educational environment, operational
system, and human resources. The certification is effective for 5 years.
The RIBA provides a
qualification process of Parts 1, 2, and 3 to register as an architect with the
Architects Registration Board. Each year, the RIBA committee members in Korea
and from abroad visit the K-Arts to assess the educational environment, curricula,
and the student’s accomplishments. Based on it, a student who undertook a three-year
program is recognized to have met the Part 1 qualification while a student who complete a five-year program is recognized to have met the Part 2 qualification. The one
who has gained the Parts 1 and 2 qualifications is now enabled to apply for the
Part 3 process.
As the only institution
in Korea to have been registered by the RIBA Validation, the Department of
Architecture of the K-Arts is anticipated to provide a qualified architectural
education to nurture professionals in the field who satisfy international standards.
