Five
K-Arts Artists Collect Awards at the 43rd Blue Dragon Film Awards
On Friday, 25 November 22 at the 43rd Blue Dragon Film Festival in the KBS Hall in Yeouido, five K-Arts alumni who studied in the School of Drama or the School of Film, TV & Multimedia won awards. Founded to promote the advancement of the Korean film industry on 30 November 1963, the Blue Dragon Film Festival is known to be one of the three top film festivals in Korea along with the Grand Bell Awards and Baeksang Arts Awards. This year, the candidates for awardees in 18 categories were selected from the pool of Korean films released from 15 October 21 to 30 October 22.
Above all, Decision
to Leave (2022) by screenwriter Jeong Seo-gyeong (School of Film, TV &
Multimedia) earned recognition as the best work of the year by sweeping awards
in six categories, including Best Music, Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, and
Best Actress. With the accomplishment, Jeong added another markable history to
her career path she had worked with filmmaker Park Chan-wook in the past
through Lady Vengeance (2005), I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK (2006),
Thirst (2009), The Handmaiden (2016).
In the meantime, Best
Cinematography and Lighting was granted to Lee Mo-gae (School of Film, TV &
Multimedia) for his contribution to Hunt (2022). The Chung Jung-won Best
Short Film went to Yoo Jongseok (School of Film, TV & Multimedia, 4th
year) with Light It Up At 2 A.M. (2022). Also, Han Ah-reum (School of
Drama) took Best Art Direction with Kingmaker (2022) and Byun Yo-han (School
of Drama) won Best Supporting Actor with Hansan: Rising Dragon (2022).
President Kim
Daejin of the K-Arts addressed, “I’m very proud to see five of our students win
awards at the Blue Dragon Film Awards, one of the most significant film
festivals in Korea. Their achievements are meaningful in that they demonstrated
their competence as artists in all fields of the Korean film industry based on what
they had learned in the K-Arts.”
