Director
Moon Sujin’s Persona (2022) Becomes the Winner of the Annecy Festival in
Graduation Short Film
An animated film, Persona (2022), by director Moon
Sujin, a BA of the School of Film, TV & Multimedia, won the top prize in
the 46th Annecy International Animated Film Festival for the graduation short
film category. The film, Persona (2022), is about the fear aroused from
experiencing the disparity between identity and persona. It further depicts how
the identity gets engulfed by the latter. Moon’s work had received recognition
by receiving the official invitations, the very first time for an animated film
from Korea, to the 32nd Animafest Zagreb and the 76th Cannes Film Festival.
Besides, Chun Tae-il: A Flame That Lives On (2021)
by director Hong Junpyo (class of 2013), who studied animation at the School of
Film, TV & Multimedia, took the Contrechamp jury distinction, awarded to
the best challenging feature animated film. Chun Tae-il (2021) portrays
the life of Chun Tae-il, who has significance as a symbolic figure of a labor
rights activist in Korean labor history.
Professor Kwak Young-jin of the Department of Animation, who directed Moon Sujin, stated, “Our students from the Department of Animation have been receiving the invitations from the Annecy Festival for three consecutive years. This year, we had the triumph of winning the top prize after director Jeong Haeji earned the jury distinction two years ago. Each summer, our students in graduation year undergo boot camp for animated film production. It is great to see having their efforts paid off."
