School
of Korean Traditional Arts – Korean Cultural Center in Germany Successfully Complete
the 3rd Korean New Music Festival
The
School of Korean Traditional Arts with Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in Germany
co-hosted the Korean New Music Festival (Festival fur Koreanische Neue Musik)
2021. They presented performances on 16 Sept. 21 (Thurs.) and 21 Sept. 21
(Tues.) at the Chamber Hall in Konzerthaus Berlin, on 23 Sept. 21 (Thurs.) in
Cologne, and 25 Sept. 21 (Sat.) in Berne, Switzerland. The Berlin concert,
especially, charged for all admissions, yet the tickets for both concert days were
all sold out.
The
KCC in Germany planned this event to introduce contemporary Korean music to the
German people. The number of new music integrating and harmonizing the Korean
traditional musical instruments and Western musical instruments showcased in
the event drew the public attention, elevating the expectation for expanding
the horizon of new Korean arts. The concert was a co-performance of the Korean
classical music performers in Germany and the K-Arts performers. And our
performers included dean Lim June-hee of the School of Korean Traditional Arts,
lecturers, and graduates – Hannuri Dance Company – who are expertise in Jeongga
(The Song of Tranquility) or instruments such as ajaeng, gayageum, geomungo,
haegeum, daegeum, and percussion.
Designated
as a participant of the 2021 K-Arts Wave Project by the Ministry of Culture,
Sports, and Tourism, the School of Korean Traditional Arts promoted the
originality and excellence of Korean traditional arts through various
international exchanges, including the International Composition Competition
Music Festival, or academic symposiums. The Korean New Music Festival is
significant, for it is the start of a full-fledged overseas expansion of the
K-Wave Project.
