Nam Soo-young Is Granted the Distinguished Paper Award by the Criticism and
Theory Society of Korea
Professor Nam Soo-young, who teaches cinema studies in the School of Film, TV & Multimedia, won the Distinguished Paper Award of 2021 by the Criticism and Theory Society of Korea with her “The Purloined Media: Cryptology, or the Secret of ‘the Visible.’”
The award ceremony took place at the online spring
academic conference on the international campus of the Kyung Hee University at
1 p.m. on Saturday, 1 May 21. In this paper, professor Nam stands on “the
perspective of media art today” and “argues for the need of a new understanding
of cryptology for media technology in today’s culture” to trans-codify “the
present digital media as riddles and puzzles.” The
Criticism and Theory Society of Korea selects the best paper from The
Journal of Criticism and Theory and bestows the award every other year.
