HOPE Sweeps Eight Awards at Korea Musical Awards
The musical HOPE: The Unread
Story and the Non-readable Life created by ARKO(Arts Council Korea)-K-Arts(Korea
National University of Arts) Musical Theater Writing Academy (ARKO-K-Arts
Academy) conquered eight awards the 4th Korea Musical Awards. Earlier
in last October, HOPE had won the Musical of the Year at the 8th
Yegreen Musical Award. Winning eight awards this time again, the musical attained
to glory of the best musical of last year. The eight categories awards were
presented are Grand Prize, Script Writing (Kang Nam), Music Composition (Kim
Hyo-Eun), Producing (Oh Hoon-Sik, the main producer of R&D Works), Directing
(Oh Ruppina), Music Mixing and Directing (Shin Eun-Kyung), Best Actress (Kim Seon-Yeung),
Best Supporting Actress (Lee Ye-Eun).
Scriptwriter Kang Nam and
music composer Kim Hyo-Eun are 4th graduates of ARKO-K-Arts Academy hosted
by Arts Council Korea and supervised by the K-Arts. Making of HOPE was sponsored
by the academy’s program.
The plot of HOPE
is inspired by the true story of a 78-year old lady Eva Hoffe who had been in
legal battles for thirty years with Israel’s National Library over taking
possession of the writer Franz Kafka’s unpublished papers. The musical was
acclaimed for its good storyline and music since its premiere.
Head professor Choi Jong-Yoon
of ARKO-K-Arts Academy commented, “HOPE’s accomplishments demonstrate
how the academy can produce creators who can contribute to the musical market
in the long term and reaffirm the importance of co-working .”
